I Don’t Know God, but I Fear His Wrath, oil paintings by Hunter Bailey. Exhibit runs from August 1–September 11. Artist’s Statement I’m interested in material culture from the ’90s and early 2000s because it seems to mark the end of an era when someone with a decent understanding of mechanics could still work on their own truck in the garage using parts from NAPA. As things become more complex and technology takes over the skills we used to learn, we drift further from a time when people could rely on themselves. Technology was sold to us as freedom, but with every update, it makes us more dependent. Artist’s Bio Hunter Bailey is an oil painter from Colorado, currently living and working in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bailey’s work explores themes of consumerism, nihilism, and the search for meaning in contemporary life. His paintings often depict cars, mattresses, and heavy machinery.
